Foods that cure illnesses are not a matter of fiction but are in fact very real. Certain foods can cure most ailments that one could develop, and is a better option to try before taking a bunch of pills for the rest of your life.

This sounds easy enough but please be advised it is always best to consult a physician before ceasing to take any medications you are already taking. With that out of the way next time you are at the supermarket how can you tell which foods are the foods that cure.

Your body is a machine and it runs on the nutrients that you receive from your food. With the right combination of foods you can help treat and in some cases even reverse certain illnesses that you may be suffering from.

I will provide you with a short list of some very beneficial foods that cure, and even if you are not suffering from an illness you will feel better and be healthy by adding them to your diet.

  1. Ground Flax Seed – Flax is an excellent source of the healthy fat ALA, or alpha-linolenic acid. This improves the central workings of the brain, the cerebral cortex, which will sharpen your senses. The easiest way is to add 1 tablespoon to your morning oatmeal or smoothie.
  2. Carrots/Butternut Squash – Orange vegetables are rich in beta carotene, an amazing antioxidant that helps in cognitive function, and is great for your eyesight.
  3. Green Tea – The antioxidants in green tea have been shown to help speed up cell recovery after an intense workout. Aim for 3 cups a day.
  4. Spinach – Spinach contains a compound that was found to increase protein synthesis in muscles by 20%. So consuming spinach after a workout can help your muscles repair themselves faster.
  5. Kidney Beans – These legumes are a great source of riboflavin and thiamine, 2 vitamins responsible for helping you to utilize energy efficiently. Kidney beans will provide you with a great source of protein and energy to make it through your day.
  6. Low fat Yogurt – Yogurt is a great source of calcium, but what is more important are the probiotics that are found in yogurt. These will aid in digestion, and can help break down fat cells to keep weight off.
  7. Garlic – Great for fighting stress. Garlic has been shown to increase the production of serotonin in the brain. Serotonin is a brain chemical that helps you feel relaxed.
  8. Dark Chocolate – Not only good for a sweet tooth dark chocolate is a super food. In addition to boosting serotonin, it also boosts endorphins, improve heart health and lower bad cholesterol. Choose dark chocolate 60% or more cocoa content.
  9. Lean Proteins – Any lean protein of your choice will do. Chicken breast, fish, or lean pork has been shown to keep you fuller longer and raise energy levels throughout the day.
  10. Honey – Have a cough or sore throat, add some honey to your tea. Honey is very soothing and full of antioxidants shown to even be effective in helping with allergies. Honey is also a great alternative sweetener that will not spike your blood sugar.

While this is not a definitive list of foods that cure it is a great start. A safe bet is to eat natural whole foods, and avoid overly processed convenience foods. Shop local and organic when you can.
